Smog Tech Inspector Training

There are certain requirement's to become a smog inspector. But the requirements have gotten easier compare to pass years. 

Former Students: Ash Bruce and Doris Ceja License Smog Technicians

For one, there is no experience necessary, you can come from retail selling shoes, flipping burgers a stay a home parent and one day you decide to become a smog Inspector, in my class it's possible.  

Smog-Inspector-Training is course for anyone has no experience but for the person who is interested in starting a business or a new career.

Let's go over the Requirements to becoming a License Smog Inspector. 

Smog Tech Inspector Training Option: 1

You must take an Engine and Emissions Control Fundamental Class for a minimum of 68hrs.  The hours may vary depending on the schools semester or term but you must complete at least 68hrs.

There will be a final examination / test that you will need to pass with score  70% or higher.

Once you have accomplish this you are half way through, congratulations. 

Now you will now need to take Level 2. 

Level 2 Smog Inspector training consist of understanding the Smog Inspection Laws and Regulations. 

At the completion of this course will also need to pass a final examination. This course consist of a minimum of 28hrs. Again the time may vary base on the semester or term.

Once you PASS both courses you will submit your application and fee to the B.A.R Licensing Unit.  Once approved you will take the State Licensing Examination.

 This will be a computer-based examination provided by a State contracted vendor with the nearest location near your home.   

Once YOU PASS the Smog Inspector State Licensing Examination you may inspect vehicles subject to Smog Check at a licensed Smog Check Station throughout California.   

Congratulations YOU are now a License Smog Inspector !!

Smog Tech Inspector License Training Option: 2 

Now if you have the ASE A6, A8 and L1 certifications you can actually bypass level 1 and go straight to level 2.      

Now you only need a minimum of 28hrs, complete the course, pass the examination and submit the application and fee to the State Licensing Department.  

Once approved you will take the State Licensing Examination. 

Once YOU PASS the Inspector State Licensing Examination you may inspect vehicles subject to Smog Check at a licensed Smog Check Station throughout California.

Former Student: Jerry License Test and Repair Technician 

Smog Tech Inspector Training Option: 3 

Option 3 is if you have the AA/AS degree in Automotive Technology and have 1 YEAR experience in the engine performance area. 

You can also go straight to the level 2 course bypassing Level 1. After passing the course submit the application and test fees to the BAR licensing Unit. 

Once approved YOU will qualify for the computer base examination for the State Licensing Examination. 

Once YOU PASS the Inspector State Licensing Examination you may inspect vehicles subject to Smog Check at a licensed Smog Check Station throughout California.

If you have a certificate in automotive technology with a min. Of 720 hrs. OF course work that includes a minimum of 280 hours in engine performance area and 1 YEAR experience in the engine performance area.  

You can also go straight to the level 2 course bypassing level 1. After passing the course submit the application and test fees to the BAR licensing Unit. 

Once approved YOU will qualify for the computer base examination for the State Licensing Examination. 

Once YOU PASS the Inspector State Licensing Examination you may inspect vehicles subject to Smog Check at a licensed Smog Check Station throughout California.

You can also bypass level 1 go straight through to the level 2 class. 

You can also go straight to the level 2 course bypassing level 1. After passing the course submit the application and test fees to the BAR licensing Unit. 

Once approved YOU will qualify for the computer base examination for the State Licensing Examination. 

Once YOU PASS the Smog  State Licensing Examination you may inspect vehicles subject to Smog Check at a licensed Smog Check Station throughout California.
